Born in İzmir in 1970, Selçuk Borovalı graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Boğaziçi University and studied Milling Engineering at the Swiss Milling School in Switzerland.
He began his career in the family business before founding Ege Tarımsal Enerji A.Ş. and DB Tarımsal Enerji A.Ş. in the renewable energy sector in 2007.
DB Tarımsal Enerji produces biofuel from domestically sourced agricultural products and waste vegetable oils. The company also manages contract farming programmes for alternative energy crops and collects used cooking oil. Since 2014, it has produced refined glycerine from domestic agricultural sources.
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Biofuel Industry Association, Borovalı has been the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in İzmir since 2005.
